verizon-motorola-droid

It was October 2008 when the G1 hit the market, the first Android based mobile phone. I was with T-Mobile at the time and was keeping my cell phone bill down. So I went through a period of trying to decide if I wanted to go for the iPhone and get stuck with AT&T or stay with T-Mobile and take a chance that the Android platform was going to be good. I got the G1 before the end of the year and haven't looked back. I had the G1 for nearly a year until Verizon brought out the Droid. By then I had become a big fan of Android so I was at the Verizon store on launch day November 6th 2009 and got the Droid. My wife also bought one at the same time, this is the first real smart phone she has had.

The Android OS has gone from strength to strength, the app store now has over 10k apps which is still far below the iPhone but I'm finding everything I need.

Here are the apps I have installed, courtesy of appbrain, you can click on any of the icons to be taken to the review of the software.....

GameGripper

I was surfing the tech news sites, as I do every morning, and was suprised by this little piece of genius. One of those times where you say, "Why didn't I think of that!". I use an emulator called 'Snesoid' on my Droid which allows me to play Super Nintendo games on my Droid. A blast from the past as I used to spend hours with my friends playing these games many many years ago. The only problem is that the keyboard on the Droid was never designed to do this and the controls are difficult to use, nothing like the GamePad.

So this add-on is amazing, it basically slips over your keyboard and, as you can see in the picture below, gives you controls similar to the SNES Gamepad. As this appeared on Engadget I can only imagine how many orders this person is getting. I applaud the ingenuity and just had to have one. After ordering I thought for a while that I had wasted my money as it wouldn't fit over the case I have on my Droid. The case is a must have but is difficult to get off and not something I'm going to do every time I want to play a game. But it turns out that the rubber is flexible enough to stretch over the wider keyboard with the case in place and works just great.

I don't get a lot of time to play these games but when I do, this device makes a big difference.
